LADY BRONCS TO HOST PRAIRIE VIEW A&M TUESDAY
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball
team will host Prairie View A&M Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Texas-Pan American
brings a 1-13 record into Tuesday's contest, while PVAMU is 2-5, with
a 1-5 record on the road.
The Lady Broncs have dropped three of their last four games by a total
of 13 points, being outscored by an average of 60-57.5. UT Pan American
has had a 40.2-33.2 advantage on the boards in the last four games,
and outshot the opposition 39.4 to 36.3 percent. Four Lady Broncs have
been averaging eight or more points per game. Senior guard Alex Gravel
(Chicoutimi, Quebec/Vanier HS) leads UTPA with 13.3 points per game
during the last four games, while senior forward Naima Williams (Houston,
TX/Clear Brook HS) has averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Junior guards Mary DeCock (Lamberton, MN/Red Rock Central HS/Northeast
CC) and Amanda Carlow (Pine Ridge, SD/Rapid City CHS/Northeast JC) have
averaged 9.3 and eight points per game, respectively. Senior forward
Julie Porter (Manchester, MI/ Manchester HS/Kalamazoo Valley JC) has
led the team with 7.5 rebounds per game.
"Amanda and Mary have both played well," said UTPA Interim
Head Coach Tracy Anderson. "Mary has come off the bench to give
our offense a spark, and Amanda has done a good job scoring when she
needs to, and distributing the ball."
The Lady Panthers are being outshot by the opposition, 39.9 to 34.9
percent, and outscored by an average of 63.3-53. "They are extremely
athletic," said Anderson. "They'll try to pressure us, so
we'll have to take care of the basketball and be sharp offensively.
They run some zone, but will play us in full court man defense."
Alayniah Teverbaugh leads Prairie View in scoring and rebounding, averaging
12.3 points and 10 rebounds per game. Latoya Moten scores 9.2 points
per game, while Tiffany Nalls averages nine points. "Teverbaugh
is very aggressive on the boards and averages a double-double,"
said Anderson. "She is a very good player, and does a phenomenal
job on the offensive boards."
The Lady Broncs return to action on Saturday, when they visit New Mexico
State in the first game of a doubleheader preceding the Broncs' game
against the Aggies. Texas-Pan American's game against Centenary, originally
scheduled for this Thursday, February 16th, has been reset for Saturday
afternoon, March 1, at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
