LADY BRONCS ADD SCHAMEL FOR FALL

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's basketball team has added their sixth recruit for the fall.

Molly Schamel, a 6-1 center from Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ, will join the Lady Broncs for the fall. Schamel is from Hector, NY and played at Watkins Glen High School in central New York. She will enter as a junior, with two years of eligibility.

Schamel averaged 14 points, six rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots per game while shooting 52.1 per cent from the field as a sophomore at Yavapai, helping lead the Lady Riders to a 20-11 record this season. During her two-year career, she averaged 11.3 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 blocked shots and made 54.3 per cent of her shots from the field. Named second team All-Arizona Community Collegiate Athletic Conference, she ranks 10th in career scoring at Yavapai with 702 points, and fifth in career field goal percentage. She was coached by Brad Clifford at Yavapai.

"Molly is a legitimate power player," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn Craft. "She will solidify the middle position for us, and she brings a power game to our program. She has very soft hands, an excellent shooting touch, and we think she'll give us great scoring opportunities in the post area. We feel that she is the perfect complementary player for us, with the quickness that we've added on the perimeter."

Schamel joins Kristi Dudley of Cedar Hill High School, Arrita Oler of Coffeyville Community College, Ashley Roberts of Butler County Community College, and Azzie Knox of Temple High School, all of whom have signed with UTPA this spring, and MaHogany Daniel of Corpus Christi Carroll High School, who signed with the Lady Broncs last fall.
