LADY BRONCS FINISH FIFTH AT TSU, MAYNARD SECOND

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX- Sophomore Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville, HS) finished second individually, and The University of Texas-Pan American's women's golf team finished fifth overall at the nine-team Texas State Bobcat Invitational at The Bandit golf course.

Maynard shot a final round score of 78 for a 36-hole score of 154. She finished three strokes behind medalist Ashlie Simmons of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Lady Broncs shot a final-round score of 330 and finished with a two-round total of 655, leaving them seven strokes behind first-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Sam Houston State finished second at 646, Lamar was third at 648, and Western New Mexico was fourth at 652. The Lady Broncs were followed by McNeese State at 658, host Texas State-San Marcos at 659, McLennan Community College at 667, and Texas State's second team at 691.

After Maynard, the Lady Broncs' next finisher was sophomore Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/ Colegio Portal), who shot an 81 for a total of 160 and tied for tenth. Junior Christine Treanor (Bulverde, TX/Smithson HS) shot an 85 for 170 and finished 29th. Sophomore Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) shot an 87 for 172, and senior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio) shot an 86 for 172, and both finished in a tie for 33rd.

"It was good to see Stefanie finish second," said UTPA Head Coach Barb Odale. "Overall, I was disappointed by the way we played as a team. The conditions were tough today, it was raining and wet, and the other teams adjusted to the conditions better than we did. Stefanie and Daniela handled the conditions the best."

The Lady Broncs will return to action when they participate at the Notre Dame Invitational next weekend.
