September 16, 2002 LADY BRONCS 10TH AFTER 1ST ROUND, SHOOT SIZZLING 312CORINTH, TX-After shooting their best single round in the three-plus seasons since Barb Odale became their head coach, The University of Texas-Pan American women’s golf team is in 10th place after the first day of action at the two-day Lady Eagle Invitational, hosted by the University of North Texas at the Oakmont Country Club. The Lady Broncs shot rounds of 312 and 323, giving them an overall total of 635. Oral Roberts is in first place at 591, followed by host UNT at 592, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 595, Southern Methodist at 601, Arkansas State at 602, McLennan Community College and Lamar at 611, Southwest Texas State at 617 and McNeese State at 627. Following the Lady Broncs were Southwest Missouri State at 637 and Sam Houston State at 642. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) led UTPA with rounds of 73 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 149 and a tie for 13th place overall. Freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) was next, tied for 47th at 79-83-162. Next were freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS), tied for 55th at 89-77-166, junior Crystal Frazier( Coolidge, TX/Wortham HS), 57th at 80-87-167, and junior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio), tied for 58th at 80-88-168.
