Release: Sunday, September 29, 2002 LADY BRONCS 12TH AT NOTRE DAME INVITATIONAL NOTRE DAME, IN-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's golf team finished 12th at the 18-team Notre Dame Invitational at the Warren Golf Club Sunday. The Lady Broncs shot a final round score of 324 after scores of 343
and 326 for the first two rounds, giving them a 54-hole total of 993,
three strokes behind 11th-place Eastern Michigan. Freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) led UT Pan American, shooting scores of 85, 88 and 75 for a three-round total of 248 and a tie for 41st. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) shot 86-80-86 for 252 and a tie for 58th, freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) shot 93-84-76 for 253 and a tie for 61st, sophomore Christine Treanor (Bulverde, TX/Smithson Valley HS) shot 87-81-89 for 257 and a tie for 68th, junior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio) shot 90-81-87 for 258 and 71st, and junior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX/Wortham HS) shot 85-91-91 for 267 and a tie for 83rd place. "We improved by almost 20 shots after our first round performance, and I was really pleased with the way our girls handled themselves," said UTPA Head Coach Barb Odale. "The grass up north is a lot thicker and it makes the ball react a lot differently. The scores for the tournament were pretty high, in general."
