Release: Monday, March 10, 2003 LADY BRONCS SIXTH AFTER FIRST DAY AT BEARKAT INVITATIONAL EDINBURG, TX- The University of Texas-Pan American's women's golf team is in sixth place after the first day of action at the 15-team Bearkat Invitational, hosted by Sam Houston State at the Del Lago Resort. Texas-Pan American shot scores of 311 and 323 Monday, the first day of the tournament. That gave them a 36-hole score of 649, and placed them 15 strokes behind second place Texas-El Paso. Southern Methodist leads the tournament with a score of 615, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock at 619, Oral Roberts at 623, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 632. Following the Lady Broncs are Lamar at 654, Southwest Texas State at 657, the host Bearkats at 663, McLennan Community College at 664, Wyoming at 671, Nicholls State at 678, McNeese State at 690, Chicago State at 822, and North Texas, which completed one round with a score of 324. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) led the Lady Broncs, shooting scores of 77 and 79 for 156 for a tie for 10th place. Junior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX/Wortham HS) shot 78 and 85 for 163 and a tie for 25th place, freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) and junior Itziar Unanue (Monterrey, Mexico/ Colegio San Patricio) both shot scores of 86 and 79 for 165 and a tie for 31st place, and freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) shot 86 and 85 for 171, leaving her tied for 50th place. The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
