UTPA WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM 6TH, SHOOTS 2ND BEST ROUND EVER

HUNTSVILLE, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team shot the second-best round in school history en route to a sixth place finish at the 15-team Bearkat Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Broncs shot a final-round score of 312 to post a 36-hole score of 961 at the tournament, hosted by Sam Houston State at the Del Lago Resort. Texas-Pan American finished just 13 shots behind fifth place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, despite holding a 316-312 advantage over the Lady Islanders over the final 18 holes of the tournament.

Arkansas-Little Rock won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 921, followed by Southern Methodist with 922, Texas-El Paso with 937, and Oral Roberts with 943. The Lady Broncs finished seven shots ahead of Sam Houston State, who finished with a 54-hole total of 968. "They all played consistently well today," said UTPA Head Coach Barb Odale. "This is the first time this season we didn't have to drop a really high score. Our total of 312 today is the second lowest score in team history."

Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) was the top finisher for UT Pan American, shooting a final-round score of 79 and tying for 14th with a 54-hole total of 235. "Daniela played well today," said Odale. "Her 77 was very good, considering she had no birdies. Nikki improved dramatically with a 76. She was under a lot of pressure, playing at her hometown course." The Lady Broncs will return to action Thursday and Friday at the NIU Snowbird Invitational in Tampa, Florida.
