UTPA WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM 7th AFTER 1ST DAY AT NIU SNOWBIRD

TAMPA, FL-The University of Texas-Pan American's women's golf team is in seventh place after the first day of action at the 21-team Snowbird Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Northern Illinois at the Pebblecreek Golf and Country Club Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Broncs shot a first-round score of 326 in the two-day, 36-hole event. Texas-Pan American trails Lynn University by three strokes.

James Madison leads the tournament with a score of 295. Southern Mississippi and Toledo are next at 307, followed by Notre Dame and Southern Illinois at 315. Following the Lady Broncs are Methodist at 327, Ball State at 330, Creighton at 333, Massachusetts at 336, Gonzaga at 337, Missouri-Kansas City at 338, The Citadel at 341, Evansville at 342, Northern Illinois at 344, John A. Logan at 345, Bowling Green State and Marshall at 346, Carthage at 388 and Baldwin-Wallace at 449.

Freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) led Texas-Pan American with a score of 79. She was followed by junior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX (Wortham HS) with an 81, freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) at 82, freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) at 86 and junior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio) at 87. The tournament will conclude with the second and final round Friday.
