LADY BRONCS TENTH AFTER FIRST ROUND AT EKU

RICHMOND, KY-The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team is in tenth place after the first round of the 15-team Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic at the Arlington Golf Course Thursday. Texas-Pan American's score of 338 was just six shots behind ninth place Murray State, and six ahead of 12th place Austin Peay's score of 342.

Toledo leads the tournament after the first round with a score of 317. Eastern Michigan is second at 320, Tennessee Tech is third at 321, Eastern Kentucky is fourth at 325, Xavier is fifth at 328, Western Kentucky and Butler are tied for sixth at 329, and Southern Illinois is eighth at 332.

Youngstown State finished the first round 12th at 353, IUPUI is 13th at 354, Dayton is 14th at 372, and Tennessee State is 15th at 437.

Freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) turned in a top-20 performance for the Lady Broncs, finishing the first round of the classic with a score of 81, and tying for 17th place. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) is just one stroke behind Cortes at 83, and is tied for 27th place. Freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) finished the round tied for 53rd with a score of 87, while junior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX (Wortham HS) shot an 88, tying for 60th place. Junior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio) tied for 75th place with a score of 93.

The Lady Broncs will continue play at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic Friday. The tournament ends Saturday.
