LADY BRONCS FALL TO TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI, 6-1

EDINBURG, TX-Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended Texas-Pan American's two-match winning streak in women's tennis with a 6-1 victory at the Cox Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.

Junior Julie Fife (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos HS) was the only winner for the Lady Broncs, defeating Kelsey Gist, 6-1, 0-6, 7-6, at number six singles.

Texas-Pan American lost two matches in three sets. Sophomore Kathryn Waslen (Calgary, AB/West Island College) lost to Felice Sanchez at number two, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. At number three, sophomore Ana Pena (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe HS) lost to Jessica Martinez, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Jessica Brown (Sioux City, North HS) lost to Lauren Schmidt at number five, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

"We lost the doubles point, and momentum-wise, that hurt us," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "We lost two matches in the third set, and we had leads in a couple of matches, and couldn't finish them off. We play McNeese Wednesday, and hopefully, we'll play well, and finish the season on a good note."

The Lady Broncs fell to 5-15 with the defeat, while the Islanders improved to 6-7 with the victory. Texas-Pan American will conclude their season when they host McNeese State Wednesday afternoon.
