LADY BRONCS DROP OPENER

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team was blanked in their season opener, losing to 65th-ranked Southern Methodist, 7-0, at the H.E.B. Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

Freshman Laura Boskovich (San Jose, CA/St. Francis HS) was the only Lady Bronc to win more than one game. She lost to Siayareh Rambally, 6-0, 6-2, at number three singles.

"It was a typical first match," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "We made too many unforced errors, and too many mistakes. We played some good points, and set up some shots, but we didn't put them away. When you have that combination against a good team like SMU, you're not going to be successful. The mistakes we made can be corrected. Hopefully, we learned something today, and we'll take something positive from this match and go into next week a better team."

The Lady Broncs fell to 0-1 with the defeat, while SMU improved to 2-0. Texas-Pan American will return to action when they visit Lamar and Houston and play Alcorn State next weekend. The Broncs will open their season next weekend when they visit Texas A&M to play the Aggies and Trinity.
