LADY BRONCS ADVANCE AT UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, TX-Two singles players from The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team will be in the consolation finals and two doubles teams will be in the championship semi-finals at the University of Texas-San Antonio Invitational Saturday.

The team of sophomore Kathryn Waslen (Calgary, AB/West Island College) and freshman Laura Boskovich (San Jose, CA/St. Francis HS) defeated Christelle Antille and Erica Garza of Laredo College, 9-7; while the team of juniors Jessica Brown (Sioux City, IA/North HS) and Alana Breen (Whistler, BC/Whistler Secondary) defeated Kallie Koenig and Nicole Solis of Lee College, 8-1. Both teams advanced to Saturday's semi-finals. The team of senior Elisabet Mateos (Barcelona, Spain/Arnau Cadell/Laredo CC) and sophomore Ana Pena (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe HS) lost to Michelle Colaninni and Alyssia Palacios of St. Edward's, 8-6.

In singles, Waslen lost to Catalina Isaza of Tyler Junior College, 6-2, 6-2, but drew a bye in the next round and advanced to Saturday's consolation finals. Freshman Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville HS) also advanced to Saturday's consolation finals after losing to Colaninni, 6-4, 6-3, and defeating Palacios, 6-3, 6-4.

Boskovich, Brown and junior Julie Fife (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos HS) advanced to the championship semi-finals. Boskovich defeated Roxanne Alavarene of Laredo College, 6-1, 6-0 before losing to Vanessa Kelly of St. Edward's, 6-0, 6-1. Brown defeated Veronica Schneider of Lee College, 6-3, 6-3, and then lost to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Kelsey Gist, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Fife downed Christina Gonzalez of Laredo College, 6-1, 6-4, and then lost in the semis to Makenzie Mekus of Southwest Texas State, 6-0, 6-1.

Mateos lost to Diana Martin of Lee College, 6-2, 7-6, and then lost to Elba Martinez of Laredo College, 6-2, 6-3. Pena lost to Margaret Potyrala of Southwest Texas State, 6-2, 7-5, and then fell to Brune Olivieira of St. Edward's, 6-3, 6-3.
