She provided great leadership on and off the track.” 2003 XC: Best finish was 27th at the Texas A&M-CC Splash. 2003 TRACK: Finished sixth at 1500 meters at the Javeline Relays with a PR of 5:01.51. Bettered that performance when she finished 12th at UTSA in 4:57.96. CROSS-COUNTRY 2002: Chavez opened up the season as the third runner for the Lady Broncs at the Islander Opening Splash. She recorded her first top 20 finish of her career at Texas-San Antonio in a personal best of 21:12 for 5000 meters. knocking more than a minute off her previous best mark. Chavez continued to improve over the season as she recorded another personal best when she finishing 20th at 20:14 at the Southern Independent Championships. At the NCAA Regional Championships, Chavez finished in a season best time of 24:53 for 6000 meters. PREP: Chavez was a three-time MVP for the Edinburg Bobcats recording personal records of 2:17.2 in the 800 meter run, and 59.8 at 400 meters.
