DELUNA THIRD IN SHOT PUT AT
TEXAS RELAYS

AUSTIN, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American’s track and field team has qualified another student-athlete for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Sophomore Deneb DeLuna (Mission, TX/Sharyland HS) qualified for the regional meet at Nebraska May 30th and 31st when she finished third at the Texas Relays Friday afternoon.

DeLuna connected on two of her six throws, throwing 45 feet, seven inches in the first round, and bettering her toss with a throw of 45 feet., 11 ¼ inches in the finals. Her mark was a personal record.

“Deneb had a good performance,” said UTPA Head Coach Ricky Vaughn. “Her technique involves spinning, and when you’re a spinner, you have the ability to hit a bigger throw. Finishing third is a big accomplishment for her, and I was pleased with her performance.”

Texas-Pan American will conclude their participation at the Texas Relays when sophomore Marlin Manley (Hampton, VA/Bethel HS) participates in the high jump, and the Broncs and Lady Broncs compete in the distance medley relays.
