EDINBURG, TX-A former student-athlete at The University of Texas-Pan American has received an award.
Reggie Kuzet, who played for the Texas-Pan American men’s basketball team during the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons, has been awarded a scholarship to complete his degree from the NCAA Degree Completion Award Program.
Kuzet joined the Broncs for the 1999-2000 season after playing at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, Louisiana. A native of Zadar, Croatia, he attended high school at XV Beogradska Gimnazija in Croatia.
“Reggie Kuzet is most deserving of this very selective and prestigious national honor,” said UTPA Director of Athletics William J. Weidner. “His selection by the NCAA reinforces our athletic program’s continued commitment to assisting the efforts of our student-athletes towards earning their degree. Our entire athletic department is most proud of Reggie’s selection. He will be an excellent representative of The University of Texas-Pan American and our athletic program.”
With his grant, Kuzet plans to earn his final 14 credits towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. The program awards funds to student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility for institutional financial aid and are within 30 semester hours of completing their degree. Students who attend school full-time receive awards equal to a full athletics grant, covering tuition, fees, room and board and books.
Kuzet was very pleased to receive the award. “I’m really excited, not too many people get this privilege,” said Kuzet. “It’s something I definitely look forward to. I did quite a bit of research on it. I am flattered, because not that many people get this. I’d like to thank Mr. Weidner and (Director of Academic Support and Student Services) Chris Uchacz for their support.”
During his tenure at Texas-Pan American, Kuzet earned numerous academic honors. He was a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, earned Dean’s List Second Honors, was a member of the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club, and was named a United States Achievement Academy Scholar-Athlete.
He also represented UTPA at an NCAA leadership conference. Kuzet attended the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, which was held in May, 2000 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
