The Biology Department at the University of Texas Pan-American
is housed in a $26 million dollar science building that was completed
in August of 1997. The building has modern laboratories, conference
rooms and offices. The building has the following common use facilities:
Walk-in growth chambers
Cold rooms
Autoclave/glassware washing facilities
TEM and SEM electron microscopes
Dark room
Cell culture facility with sterile laminar flow hoods
Ultracentrifuge
High speed centrifuges
Gel documentation camera
Electrophoresis apparatus and power supplies
PCR machine
UV crosslinker
300 MHz NMR machine
Incubators
CO2 incubator
Laminar flow hoods
Lyophilizer
The
Chemistry Department
is also housed in the same building and possesses many pieces
of analytical equipment which include:
GC/MS machine
Atomic absorption spectrophotometer
Future plans include the construction of a new wing to be added
on to the current science building and the construction of a greenhouse.
