SCHOLARSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The
Biology Department at the University of Texas - Pan American is
pleased to offer the following scholarships:
The
Wheeler Scholarship -open to undergraduate and graduate Biology
majors
This scholarship is geared toward studies in environmental science,
ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Studies for careers
in medicine are not covered under this scholarship.
Scholarship amount: to cover cost of tuition, fees, and books.
Qualifications: Candidates must be full-time students and residents
of Texas, with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or graduate
GPA of 3.0.
The
Dugger Scholarship - open to female graduate students in Biology,
studying flora and/or fauna native to the Rio Grande Valley
Qualifications: Candidates must be full-time, female, graduate
students working toward a thesis. Candidates must submit a copy
of their research proposal, a detailed vitae, transcripts, and
a minimum of three letters of reference. The scholarship may be
renewed a second year if the recipient maintains a minimum graduate
GPA of 3.5.
The
Don Esteban Garcia - open to undergraduate and graduate Biology
majors.
This scholarship is open to all Biology majors.
Scholarship amount: $500.00 per academic year.
Qualifications: The awarding of this scholarship is on a competitive
basis.
The
Pauline James Scholarship - open to undergraduate or graduate
Biology majors
First preference for scholarship recipients will be given to students
studying ornithology.
Qualifications: The awarding of this scholarship is on a competitive
basis.
The
James-Ware-Foltz Fund - open to honors undergraduate and graduate
Biology majors. The purpose of these funds are to defray expenses
for students presenting their research findings at scientific
meetings.
Qualifications: Candidates must submit a short narrative (1-2
pages) of their research, budget itimizing the funding request,
and why the candidate believes he/she should receive these funds.
Candidates must also submit transcripts and a statement from their
major professor in support of the application. The statement from
the major professor must include a description of how the funds
will be used in the candidate's research.
Application deadline and information: These funds will be awarded
as needed.
