The
overall goal of the program is to foster the development
of talented underrepresented minority master’s students
and encourage them to pursue advanced training leading
to a biomedical Ph.D. at the University
of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) after graduation. Key
features of this program will be the extensive campus
interactions to integrate the MS and doctoral programs
and also advance the ability of institutions involved
to offer biomedical training to both life sciences and
non-traditional students. The MS students in this program
come from three institutions with high minority enrollment
including UTPA. Currently there students enrolled in the
program. The program pays $ 15,000 to each student for
the completion of MS at UTPA and a guaranteed admission
into Ph.D. at UTMB.
