Students seeking a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling and School Counselor Certificate are required to take 39 semester hours, including the courses listed under both Foundations and Core Courses in Counseling.

Option II:  Counselor Certificate Only
Students with a Master’s Degree and Teacher certificate may enter a Counselor Certificate-Only program that requires 27-30 semester hours, primarily in the areas of Foundations and Core Courses.
NOTE: The TExES Examination has a significant number of items in the areas of Human Growth and Development, and Counseling the Culturally Diverse.
Students are advised to take EPSY 6390 and a course in the cultural foundations area, or demonstrate competency in the two areas prior to taking the TExES examination.
