The Department of English offers a wide variety of courses for undergraduates who major or minor in English. Students can choose from courses in literary studies, critical theory, applied linguistics, creative writing, and rhetoric and composition during the course of their studies. The department also offers degree plans in English Language Arts for students interested in becoming middle school or high school teachers.

Graduates of the M.F.A. pursue careers as writers, editors, teachers, and other careers relating to creative writing.

Our department also supports a number of student activities, including the English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, and the student Creative Writing group, Sin Fronteras.

We also sponsor a student literary magazine, gallery. Guest authors who have visited our campus include Kevin Prufer, Dagoberto Gilb, Marjorie Agosin, Kathleen Alcala, Denise Chavez,  Ted Kooser, and Gary Soto.

Please contact our staff or one of our academic advisors if you have questions concerning our programs.
