This year's chapter sponsors:
Membership is open to all currently enrolled students at the University of Texas-Pan American who have a major or minor in English and who meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of two completed college English courses with a B average in those courses
- A ranking in the highest thirty five percent of their class in general scholarship (overall coursework)
- Completion of three semesters or five quarters of college course work.
All of these requirements must be met before induction in to English Honors Society, which takes place in the spring. Prior to the induction ceremony, each candidate's records, in accordance to the records and registration information provided by the school, will be reviewed for consideration of membership. A letter of invite, containing an application, will be sent out via mail to all candidates who qualify for membership. A deadline and place for dropping off of finished applications will be specified in the letter. Upon arrival, each application will be reviewed by the honors society's officers and sponsors for correctness in accordance to Sigma Tau Delta standards. The officers will then contact each accepted candidate, via mail or e-mail, to notify them that their application has been approved.
If you are interested in joining Sigma Tau Delta, keep in mind that all requirements to join must be met by the Spring Semester. No late applications will be accepted, without exception.
Sigma Tau Delta hopes to continue its success by promoting education and the love of literature. For more information about the English Honor Society log on to http://english.org/ or call the UTPA Department of English at 956/381-3421.
