Program Description

The Masters in Clinical Psychology is a 48 SCH hour/unit,  evening format program. It requires approximately two years to complete at 12 SCH hrs. per semester. It is possible to complete much, but not all, of the program by attending classes held between 4:30 pm and 10:00pm Monday through Thursday.  This program is designed for employed persons who are motivated to attend classes in the evening in order to pursue graduate education and training.

The Masters in Clinical Psychology is designed to provide theory, research based assessment and intervention strategies, skills training in assessment and therapy, practice knowledge, clinical  experience, and supervision of professional practices in the field of applied psychology. Students are provided with theoretical and practical understanding of the principles of psychology, within the framework of a strong clinical emphasis. Courses present various aspects of the science of psychology and the art of practice as applied to understanding human behavior, both normal and abnormal, and to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional problems and disorders.

Included in the Masters program are 6 course hours in Practicum Training and 6 additional course hours (480 clock hours) in an Internship in the Rio Grande Valley greater community. The Internship could be in an inpatient or day hospital psychiatric facility, or chemical dependency unit, partial hospitalization mental health center, state human development center, autism program, rehabilitation center, state mental health agency, community center for delinquent youth, and/or as an intern with private practice psychologist(s).
