Apply for Admission

A student asks a question at the front desk in the visitor's center.  This desk is part of the Undergraduate Admissions Office. A student is assisted by a friendly staff member at the front desk of the Graduate Admissions Office in the Administration Building. A friendly staff member at the International Admissions Office informs us that the Texas Common Application for International Applicants is needed for international “undergraduate” applicants. A friendly staff member at the Graduate Student Office is ready to assist international graduate students with admissions.

Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid.  Students are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA every year to become eligible for various Federal, State and Local Grant Programs, Student Loans and Federal and State Work-Study. Visit the Financial Aid Web site for additional information or call 956/381-2501.

APPLY NOW FOR GRANTS Grants are free money that does not have to be paid back. APPLY NOW FOR SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are money awarded to students based on merit and academic achievement.
APPLY NOW FOR LOANS Loans are money that must be paid back once a student graduates or leaves school. APPLY NOW FOR WORK STUDY POSITIONS Work Study provides money that is earned through part-time employment.
Exemptions and Waivers Exemptions and Waivers: Tuition/fee exemptions are programs that decrease the tuition and/or fees charged to eligible students. Waivers are programs that waive the difference between nonresident and resident tuition at Texas public colleges and universities.

Students can apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You’ll need your (and your parents) current year tax return, proof of any untaxed income and your (and your parents) PIN number to complete your FAFSA. If you or your parents do not have a PIN to sign electronically, you can get one at www.pin.ed.gov.

Need Help with the FAFSA?

If you would like help completing your FAFSA come by our Express Lab anytime from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. on the first floor of the Student Service Building right next to the main Student Financial Services Office. No appointment is necessary.

The Office of Graduate Studies allocated more than $290,000 in the last academic year for assistantships.

The Colleges allocated about $2 million the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 Semesters.

  • Teaching Assistantships amounted to $521,705.
  • Research Assistantships amounted to $911,274.
  • Student Assistantships amounted to $549,720.
